A three month trial of Wheelsure Ltd’s newly developed
wheel nut locking device is currently underway on 3 Volvo
B10M coaches and 1 Volvo B10M P/S bodied vehicle at Stagecoach
in Fife. This second generation device has been developed
by Wheelsure to specifically meet the needs of operators wishing
to retro-fit the product.
Sandy Brydon, Engineering Director for Stagecoach in Fife
says: “Wheel loss is an issue that we take very seriously.
The Wheelsure product works in a different way to any other
wheel security device currently available on the market, and
we are already convinced that it works. If this trial goes
well then we will seriously consider retro-fitting the device
to other vehicles in the fleet as part of our proactive safety
programme.”
This new development will enable operators
to fit the Wheelsure device to their existing fleet during
scheduled routine maintenance checks, with a minimum of disruption.
The results of independent testing on the device, carried
out by Bolt Science prove the new product to offer the same
high levels of wheel security as the original Wheelsure device.
When put through vibration testing on a Junkers machine, the
device retained the optimum 95% of its clamping force. A 5%
loss in clamp force occurs without any nut rotation and is
due to embedding loss in the thread and on the bearing faces
of the fastener.
Gerhard Dodl Managing Director of Wheelsure
Ltd explains: “up until now, fitting our device has
meant using a modified stud which is 10mm longer than a normal
stud to allow for the left hand thread, required for the locking
cap. This new product allows operators to utilise the existing
bolt provided it is in good condition, therefore keeping costs
down. We are delighted to be working with such a high profile
company as Stagecoach in bringing this second Wheelsure product
to the market.”
